Research use only
The legal and practical meaning of the term, rather than the one-line disclaimer version of it.
Every product on this site carries the phrase, and it is worth setting out what it actually means rather than leaving it as a line of small print nobody reads.
All products listed are sold strictly for in-vitro laboratory research and analytical use. They are not drugs, foods, cosmetics or medical devices, and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
What the term establishes
Research use only is a statement about category, not about quality. It says the material sits outside the regulatory frameworks that govern drugs, foods, cosmetics and medical devices. Those frameworks impose manufacturing controls, testing regimes, labelling requirements and release criteria. Material supplied for research has not been through them.
That is not a loophole or a formality. It is a real difference in what the material is and what is known about it. A compound released for administration carries documented evidence of identity, purity, sterility and stability, assessed against a standard, by a party accountable for that assessment. Research material carries no such release.
Three categories people conflate

These are not three grades of one product. They are three different things with different legal standing. A compound that exists in all three categories is not the same article in each of them.
What we do not say
You will not find dosing guidance, administration protocols, therapeutic claims or before-and-after material anywhere on this site. Not because of caution about wording, but because supplying research material and advising on human use are incompatible activities. A supplier doing the second is not honouring the terms of the first.

What does research use only mean?

Is research use only the same as pharmaceutical grade?
No, and the distinction is the entire point. Pharmaceutical grade describes material produced under regulated manufacturing controls and released for administration. Research material carries no such release. The two are different categories of product with different legal standing, not two tiers of the same thing.
Why is compounded material different from research material?
Compounded preparations are produced by licensed pharmacies for a named recipient under a prescription, within a regulatory framework. Research compounds are supplied to laboratories for experimental work with no such framework and no claim of suitability for administration.
Who can order research compounds?
